Txiki Begiristain says there is serious competition for city squad positions in the final weeks of the season.
City is traveling to Wembley this Saturday to play our FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal. We know that we are two wins away from another national success.
And after the English season is over, the focus will be on the Champions League and the second leg of our round of 16 against Real Madrid.
When we pass Los Blancos, we travel to Portugal for an eleven-day knockout tournament to see who will be crowned European champions.
City could end the season with an upswing, and Begiristain believes players are now auditioning to be part of the biggest flagship matches.
"There is competition for places and that is very important," he said. "Everyone wants to play the big games and the big games are coming.
"We have already said that the league games will sometimes prepare for the semi-finals, hopefully another final and then the Champions League.
"Everyone is fighting for a place."
City prepared for Wembley with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth thanks to a wonderful free kick by David Silva and Gabriel Jesus.
Silva's 25-yard free kick went off the bar, giving Aaron Ramsdale no chance, while Jesus skipped two challenges before boring the ball into the bottom corner.
Begiristain was impressed with the quality of the goals and said it was disappointing that due to the security measures of COVID-19, fans were not in the stadium to see Silva's recent excellence.
"They were two very good one-offs from two top players," he said during our We are not really here Live matchday show.
"David is now taking the free kicks and he is incredibly efficient. It is a shame that people cannot see this from the stands what David has been doing in the last few games.
"But it's great to see him meet.
"And it was a very good action from Gabriel."
