Michael Dugher, Managing Director of BGC, said: "BGC is a new standards organization that aims to bring about major changes across the industry. We need top people to do this.

"Kevin Schofield is one of the best media professionals of his generation, he has massive respect in journalism and politics and he is an excellent job for the BGC.

"Kevin joins an already high profile and growing team at BGC, which shows that we are building something exciting at BGC to become the best in the business."

Conor McNamara decides not to appeal

Conor McNamara will not appeal against the ten-day ban that he imposed on Saturday at the Fairyhouse for his ride on Surfing Tenor.

The young conditional was given the protracted lock by the Fairyhouse stewards because he had made no real attempt to achieve the best possible placement on Surfing Tenor in the first 2-meter auction hurdle.

Surfing Tenor, who was sent off 12: 1, finished sixth behind Funky Dady and proved somewhat lame after the race. The horse was banned for 42 days.

Coach Gavin Cromwell told the stewards on race day that McNamara had ridden according to instructions, but Cromwell was not happy with how the horse was ridden in the final stages of the race.

McNamara said, "I've been thinking about it for a long time and I'm not going to appeal. I found it very hard that day, but I will just keep my head down and stop pursuing it." ""
